Blarg!
Bill's blog. Writing, guitars, gratuitous Simpsons references, you'll find it all here. Almost certainly a waste of time for both you and the author. On the internet, that's actually a plus.
The fonts of the year
I know it's September, but I wanted to show off this nifty font calendar my wife got me for Christmas. It's a gift that keeps on giving all year long, with some lovely typefaces, including my favorite font, Rockwell, in January.
Here's a month-by-month rundown of the font styles:
It's leap year, so there are 29 days in Unical.
- January: Slab Serif
- February: Unical
- March: Humanist
- April: Old Style
- May: Transitional
- June: Modern
- July: Blackletter
- August: Script
- September: Geometric Sans Serif
- October: Grotesque Sans Serif
- November: Humanist Sans Serif
- December: Decorative
The littlest luchador
This is awesome.
Treehouse
I'm building a treehouse in my backyard for my two boys. I'll post occasional updates on it here.
I've been using a one-tree design from Tree Houses You Can Actually Build.

My favorite episode of Writing Excuses

I had assumed "Hollywood Formula" meant car chases, schmaltz, and gun play. It didn't. Despite this glaring omission, it's a great episode on how to construct a story.

Eddie Van Halen - Frankenstien Guitar
This guitar is worth more than both my family's cars combined. To up the cars' resale value, I'm going to go at them with spray paint and a crowbar.
This is pretty awesome--they're selling replicas of Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstein guitar, down to all the dings, modifications, and cigarette burns of the original. Its $19,000 price tag covers about $300 in parts, and $18,300 for David Lee Roth to personally drive over it with his Camaro.
Hello, world!
Welcome to my new website. I'll have updates soon. Until then, here's a fun episode of my current favorite podcast, Roderick on the Line: "Then There Was Pump Chili."
